I seem to have been a frequenter of the "Safe Ingredient Sources" section. I apologize if my messages have become annoying. I am considering giving a supplement to our son, and I wonder whether its ingredients are safe. He is seven years old. The promise of the supplement is increasing cognitive functions (mainly memory and concentration). It is a hot-selling product in Turkey nowadays. For those parents who wonder how it looks, here is the link:
The main ingredients, which, I assume, are safe, are as follows:
- Cognizin(TM) Citicoline, - Fish Oil - Vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamine) However, when it comes to the inactive ingredients, I am not sure. They are
- Beeswax (yellow and white) - Lemon Peel (Rind?) Oil I would be grateful if you could share your opinion with me about the safety of these ingredients. I thank you all in advance...

It will be safe. However he should be getting enough fish oil anyway in his diet. B12 also this is found in meats and yeast extract. Excess B12 can me damaging I believe (remembered post somewhere might not be correct please check).

Looks safe to me. However, I agree with Bill. Do your research on supplements because overages can be just as dangerous as deficiencies. And especially easy to overdue it with children. It’s an interesting product. Let us know how it goes!

It’s an interesting product. Let us know how it goes! Many thanks Antonia... The triple combination (Fish Oil + B12 + Citicoline) was recommended by a popular physician on TV to increase attention and memory in both children and adults. After my initial post on the HFI forum, I did some more research on the Internet, and developed some suspicion about citicoline, the main active ingredient in the supplement. I think, I am not going to buy this product. The following page was instrumental in my change of mind:
Best wishes to you all...

When on an unsafe diet we all get "brain Fog" also liver damage can reduce the ability to concentrate and low energy severely limits ones ability to think. The brain uses about 25% of the bodies energy used each day. However once the liver "switches back on" after a period of at least 6 months of a clean diet the brain activity rises rapidly. Our diet being high in minerals, vitamins, Protein and fish seems to ensure we catch up with our school mates quite quickly educationally even from a very slow start. It may take years however so do not expect any miracle fast cures. This is the general experience I see reported by parents from the last 18 years anyway. Keep smiling.
