Rice is the staple food for our son. After a while he started asking for alternatives. Buckwheat appeared to be a good choice, and he liked it. My search with the term "buckwheat" on the forum yielded conflicting results: some experienced members indicate that it is not HFI-safe, whereas others say it is not unsafe than rice. According to the values shown on Fineli database, buckwheat seems safe to me:
I would very much appreciate your opinion on it.
With my thanks in advance...

Ok.. rice is a food that has been dehulled (outer skin of the grain) and polished removing the "germ" of the grain. The "Germ " Of the grain (any grain) has a tiny amount of fructose in it. Also the outer hull or husk of the grain is partly digestible fibre. This is digested in the small intestine to sucrose. some of which will be transported into the blood stream. So this is why we do not recommend whole grains very much, not even wheat or barley, unless highly processed into flour. Pasta should be fine for him noodles etc. chapatis made with refined Gram flour should be safe also. I certainly have eaten a lot of them. It is important to eat a variety of foods however so the occasional meal that contains a little buckwheat will be fine, only not as a staple food.

Dear Bill, your entries have been instrumental in shaping the diet of our son. In a few years' time, I will also add a small amount of psyllium into his diet in line with the recommendations you gave in another entry. Many thanks...

I am not sure if this video is available in your part of the world (youtube can be funny about that). This video is about fatty livers what causes them etc.. well worth a view if you can. youtu.be/u4i48FBwfs4Obviously he knows nothing about HFI however his advice as to how to clean up a fatty liver is more or less spot on what the HFI diet is!

That is a very useful video, Bill, many thanks indeed... It does not only give very valueable clues against the HFI or fatty liver problems but offers a wise philosphy of life: rather than searching for cheap, quick and miraculous cures, we have to draw up long-term, scientific and elaborate plans focusing on root-causes, and follow them diligently and resolutely.
