Hello guys, what are your experiences with coffee in general? Is coffee totally safe? How much would be dangerous or what type of coffee should we avoid? I tried instant coffee yesterday. Its says 100% coffee powder and I didnt feel very good after.. Does any of you lot drink coffee on a regular basis with no ill effects after ? (Plain coffee obviously no added ingredients)
Thanks everybody. P.S: UK Bill thank you for ypur contribution throughout these years..

The CSID Cares website lists brewed coffee as having no fructose or sucrose. But if you have any kind of digestive problem, as I do, (microscopic colitis), it is best to avoid it as it is a gut irritant.

No problem glad to help. Yes real coffee.. I love unfortunately these days it does not love me. I get bad gut cramps if I drink any unless it's on top of a large meal. Instant is like acid.. However is this an HFI "thing" or the side effect of damage done to my gut after many decades of seriously abusing my guts? Well the jury is out on that. Certainly as a child / young adult I drank both instant and real coffee but then I ate an awful lot of things that today would rip me apart.. or at least make me feel like I am being.. Coffee has some fine fibre in it.. which may be digestible (making sucrose in the small intestine). What is not common knowledge is that HFI effects the Intestines as well as the Liver, Kidneys etc. However if I was constipated.. a coffee certainly would get things moving so to speak! Ahh the joys of ageing.. lol Keep smiling keep safe.

Oh man, I love coffee. I drink at least two cups a day (with milk). I would recommend always having it with food because it does do some strange things to metabolic pathways that can cause some complications if you're struggling with hypoglycemia.
EDIT to add: Steer clear of chicory, soy, and other novel coffee additives. They are not safe.

Yeah, I had to get rid of coffee, I was getting anxious and shaky qnd actually low energy. I felt hypoglycemic sometimes. I tried coca-cola zero sugar and I felt weird too... My tastebuds are different after all of these years trying to figure out what my problem was.. When I was younger I could not stand the smell of sweet foods, fruitd even herbs sometimes like coriander it would make me want to vomit, let alone the taste of it. For whatever reason if its sugar combined with fat like chocolate I crave it but allways get very sick for a couple weeks after depending on how much of it I eat. Wich I have done in the past, trying to figure out why I was allways having diarrhea and sometimes vomiting..
So I believe its some bacterial issue, because that protection I had when I was younger wich was to avoid sweet tasting stuff that UKBill talks about , is lost. I enjoy sweet and fat tasting things, like no lactose milk, and coca cola zero sugar. I just dont feel good afterwards. I dont know if its fructose reactiom or something else tho.. apparently coke zero was supposed to be safe from what I have read, and and no lactose milk too.. (I think they just add lactase enzyme into the milk so it breaks lactose down into glucose and galactose).. Maybe its tge purity of the ingredients, I dont know.. but its sad that I cant enjoy more variety in my diet.. There was this lady on this forum (Sorry I forgot her name) that had a daughter and she said her daughter drinks diet coke/sodas with no issues, and I wonder what she uses these days and what are the ingredients, because I cant drink even coca cola zero sugar, wich where I live is sweetened with aspartame, sodium cyclamate, and acesulfame k.. those should be fine I think.. maybe its the natural flavorings (wich are not specified), I dont know.. I just feel sad that I react to everything and cant seem to feel normal unless I am on a zero carb diet eating nothing but meat eggs and butter.. I also do not have an issue with white rice. I tried herbs and spices like oregano, cumin, and they give me hypoglicemia still.. I can tolerate some watercress leaves once in a while tho. I tried also parsley and that was bad.. 🤷🏽♂️ I am lost kinda..

I've never had a problem with regular brewed coffee. I don't drink instant coffee regularly, maybe once a year, so I can't really comment on that.
As a side note, the year or two before I got my diagnosis, I was slowly poisoning myself to death with powdered coffee creamer. So stay away from that no matter how it tastes.
