I really have no clue. We just haven't had the LBS struggles that you have had. I would think a glass of milk would help about as much as any protein drink you could find. We use breastmilk for times like those but I realize not everyone stocks that

Have you tried Glucose pills that the drug stores sells? They taste like candy and work quickly to boost blood sugar levels–I use them occasionally-unless I eat them all first–b/c they taste to good.
Whole Foods (and I”m sure other health food stores) sell un-flavored protein powder in the bulk isle section. My husband tried making me smoothies with it and milk, but I just didn’t like them–even with pixie sticks mixed in for flavor. My husband, who uses flavored protein, said it didn’t have the same consistency.
Try ricotta cheese, it is made from whey, so it is full of protein. You could throw it into the blender with milk and peanut butter for a smoothie too.
I also mix pixie sticks with non-fat yogurt and freeze it in popsicle trays for “frozen yogurt”
