Hi everyone, Kerryn has been having trouble posting so she's ask me to post the following message for her...
Greeting’s
Just thought an update might go down well. Zanoah travel’s along fine, and yet I know there is something wrong in the back ground, a little amiss you could say, but I can’t put my finger on it, so I put it down to mum worrying and let it slide,
The HFI diet is great and the only reason we are not having much trouble along the way. But I put in here she is very restricted, No chocolate, vanilla or artificial flavours except saccharine. But in the month leading up to this crisis Zanoah was showing HFI reactions to known safe foods. The reaction tummy pain, diarrhoea and a burning acid bowel motion.
Then we get a normal 24hr child virus. Hot temp and very quick to dehydrate (ist time ever) she dehydrated in less than 8 hrs. So we ended up in ER casualty with me not being able to control her temp with meds and cool baths.
On arrival rehydration was eventually started when we could all agree on which drip could be used. We have no meds lists ready to go. It helped but she didn’t respond fully, then the search for a safe antibiotic, finally found and we were admitted after 14 hrs of comfortably sitting in ER.
As we were moved up stairs we were earmarked as contagious, isolation from all. This tag lasted four days, later to be deemed by specialist as wrong and removed.
The rehydration and antibiotics were continued for four days there was great improvement, the same for other kids admitted with same virus.
Only I now had a child jumping up an down on the hospital bed to a TV show and the Drs saying go home [cured] I say NO there is something wrong. She keeps telling me she has a sore tummy and demands pain meds. Some back ground, the original specialist who originally told me possibly HFI was on call this weekend and had taken her under his wing stopped and listened to me again. He decided to run some 2 tests mostly to humour me but to check.. 1 tummy ex-ray and 1 ultrasound,
After just the ex-ray he immediately returned. The dehydration had caused an underlying problem to show its ugly head, a direct result of diet and wrong use of benifibre for over 12 months. We now had a server case of faecal loading or impacted bowel or blockage. The only symptoms until now diarrhoea which in this case is called overflow, acid burn and odour because the fluid doesn’t work properly in bowel and hard to separate from HFI.
6 days from start to finish we in hosp, all meds trialed and some bad reactions, LBS etc, still jumping on the bed. Thank goodness for a listening DR and ex-ray. We were sent home to test meds that would be suitable.
8 days home we are now sure we are getting relief from pure paraffin oil. My research shows it will take 6 months to repair, With tests of different meds we again demonstrated her HFI reaction and now our local hospital has met her and her very determined Pead specialist in full glory.
All 6 days her dad supplied food from home isn’t he great, the dietician was read the riot act by the specialist, but never recovered.. But! Did manage to confirm a question I’ve had for a while here they use a preservative (sugar) in all red meat. She was so scared she would not even allow lamb to be supplied by hosp, hence my struggle in that area. We are yet to get its name, plus pasta here is not good as yet I don’t know why.
Zanoah announced at the end that the good Dr fixed her sore tummy. Then at home she started to pinch food. I asked if she thought now tummy fixed she no longer HFI she said yes and was upset when I explained there are different sore tummies.
Sorry for the lack of postings, - the other part of our life has been chaos for 12 months. Now I have 9 weeks to go before baby #2 arrives. Interesting points this baby won’t allow me to eat pineapple and other things just like Zanoah did when I was carrying her. So I’m leaning toward HFI and if I eat a bowl of fruit salad it goes quiet I wonder if LBS but then I agree with the comment my liver should be doing the job for both? Any questions just ask. Keep up the good postings, they are great thanks.
