So my boyfriend has gone through extreme dietary restrictions thinking he may be allergic to wheat and dairy along with following the low FODMAP diet. He was still expereincing cyclical vomiting and through some research believes her has HFI. It is the only thing that has worked for him and had enabled him to start working again. However, the fact that there is no solid list a person can use for HFI is making it difficult. I can't seem to get him to write down a food log so we can track what foods may be making him sick. I honestly don't even know for sure what I can make him that he can eat and he's getting really upset with me because I'm completely unsure what I can feed him so that I can help him out on days he's busier. Now he's frustrated that I'm continually asking for some kind of list of things he had been able to tolerate so I cash potentially make him food. Has anyone else struggled with this or found their significant others struggling with issues like this?

I would suggest he try to get a diagnosis, it is not healthy to cut ingredients out of your diet unless 100% necessary. If he does have HFI he will not like the taste of sweet foods at all and will likely avoid them anyway. Avoid any ready-made foods with added sugar or fructose corn-syrup (they sneak this into cereal, breads, yogurt, sauces, salad dressings, dips etc). Avoid all fruit and all red/ orange/yellow vegetables(and of course ready-made foods containing these ingredients). Green veg is generally okay. Grains like wheat and rice are fine and dairy and eggs and meat and fish (all as long as there's no added sugar). It's really quite easy to cook with HFI if you're used to cooking things from scratch.

This might help: He should definitely be talking to a doctor to try and get a diagnosis if he's not already. People with HFI have to make most of their meals. Dining out is a huge challenge. They also have to avoid the following sugars: fructose-free.tumblr.com/post/15777874026/which-sugars-to-avoid-with-hfi -- this includes foods that have the sugars occurring naturally. HFIers also have to read the ingredients on everything. Grocery shopping is tedious because we can't trust food manufacturers not to randomly change the ingredients on previously safe foods. The only other advice I have is to avoid whole grain wheat and brown rice. It's pretty much the opposite advice of what you hear from nutritionists. :\
