Hi HFI Friends,
I was diagnosed about 4 yrs ago, and I’ve cut all fruit and 98% vegetables out of my diet (not that I ever ate many but I was periodically “trying” before I knew about HFI). Anyhow, over the past year, I noticed that my little cuts and abrasions take a long time to heal. I went on a fishing trip over three weeks ago the bug bites on my legs are still red and scabbed. I’ve noticed that sometimes little cuts can take a couple of weeks to heal, when they used to be gone with a week. And I bruise very easily now. I take a multivitamin and vitamin C. I’ve been checked for anemia and my levels are fine. Has anyone else noticed this delay in healing? And one more question- have any of you had kidney stones? With all of the calcium in my diet, I suspect I might have them because I often have kidney pain and occasionally my urine is slightly blood tinged. (Sorry if that is too much information). I guess I am just trying to figure out what might be related to HFI as I am getting older and what might just be related to other things... like just plain aging...
I really appreciate all of the wisdom, kindness, and camaraderie on this forum!
Warmly, Katie

My urine isn't blood tinged, but it does turn yellow, dark yellow, or even orange on occasion--mostly due to accidental ingestion of fructose.
I've never had kidney stones, but I do get kidney pain if I eat a certain amount of unsafe food. If you're having kidney pain, you might want to reflect on what you ate and review the ingredients a second time.
Lastly, I do take a LOOONG time to heal. I have scars on my legs from a year ago. I don't know what a normal time to heal is since I've always been this way. I've never really bruised easily, though, but my doctor did state that I have very thick skin.

Katie535 by the sounds of it you are not eating a balanced diet. Are you taking vitamin C? that is essential for us! Absolutely essential! that might be your problem. Meat fish and animal fats contain tonnes more vitamins and minerals than any Veg oil or most vegetables and fruit as well. when I say a "balanced diet" I am meaning a good mix of meats and sea fish. Eating something like a liver pate (sugar free) is a wonderful source of vitamin A and many many nutrients mostly totally missing in vegetables (OK Carrots have vitamin A but no veg has any B vitamins)
At a guess its vitamin C you are missing. if you are at risk of getting pregnant at all then taking a folic acid supplement as well as vitamin C is also essential to avoid a dangerous spinal fault in the baby.

An 8 Oz rump steak has as much nutrient value as 7 eggs, 150g spinach, 300g Brazil nuts and a load of other ingredients too.
The Nutrient value of red meat and animal fats are far higher than ANY vegetable or Fruit, by orders of magnitude.
The problem world wide is not the lack of land to grow food for meat animals but the over population of the world outstripping the worlds resources, not just food but minerals to make the stuff we all think of as essential things we need , Mobile phones, cars, cloths, housing etc etc etc. even with the current world population we need 2.5 Earths for everyone to have a decent standard of living.
