My son just celebrated his 5th Birthday and I wanted to share some of the "desserts" that I have made for him over the past couple years.
I try to do something different every year for his "birthday cake".
this year I used the English muffing bread recipe from this board and put them in sprayed muffin tins. After they were cooled, I put them in a fancy cupcake wrapper and then I used a piping bag with plain yogurt to make icing. I topped it with a sprinkle of cinnamon. It looked like a perfect cupcake. He was really happy and it looked and tasted great. the rest of the bread muffins will freeze well and can go in his lunch box for a good breakfast option.
One year, I made a cake, same recipe as above, in a loaf pan and put homemade whipped cream and cinnamon on it.
I have also made Globs. Taking the cookie recipe ( the flour, butter, salt and water) and then adding the homemade whipped cream in between.
My Mother in Law made my son a "cheese cake" this year too. It was the cutest thing I have ever seen. It was made 100% out of cheese and looked like a 3 tiered cake. The main tiers were made of yellow block cheese and then there was shreddy and white block cheese in between the layers. She even used white cheese to make flowers with yellow centers. One of the most creative thing I have ever seen. He absolutely loved it!

adorable! I love how much he loves cinnamon! Have you seen that cheese wedding cake at Costco? I freaking wish I had that brilliant idea back when I got married. Maybe I'll ask for a cheese "cake" for my birthday this year.

These are great! We did a Going on a Bear Hunt theme with bear shaped pancakes for Arthur's 4th and I'm thinking of a pretzel or pizza party for his 5th in August. But pretzels and pizza are far more labor intensive to make.

Argh this is so cool! My parents always did this for me...cheese towers and cheesy biscuit cakes. Love seeing that I'm not the only kid to have had these kinds of amazing and unique birthday cakes!
