Hey guys! Specially UKBill, I saw you mentioning in some occasions that is fine to drink beer, and you also mentioned German beers. Can you recommend any brand that you believe is completely safe, or any brand of whisky or any other kind of alcoholic beverage for people with HFI?

Genuine London Dry Gin is sugar free Any beer made in Germany and labeled as Beer should be safe. If they put anything other than barley, hops, water and yeast they cannot cal it "beer" I wish other countries followed the same idea! Any bottle of beer that states ingredients as Barley, water and yeast (with or without hops) will be safe too. Whiskey is harder. Certainly anything made in the USA is not safe. Most Scottish whiskeys are safe'ish.. although they are getting worse by the week. Anything that has sherry "cask finish" "Bourbon cask finish" etc are not safe. The safest Scotch is a light colour single malt whisky (much of the colour is from caramel / or residual sherry / bourbon left in casks I believe) try a Spayside (Its a region in Scotland) single malt. A Irish Bushmills is not bad either. Many taste a bit sweet but I am assured that is a vanilla flavour that is imparted by the white oak barrels. Vodkas are a difficult one. There are practically no restrictions as to what can be in vodka. "Absolute" vodka is supposedly just the purist alcohol available. It has no taste at all.. so why drink it? Vodka needs something added to it. So perhaps a Russian coffee? (a real coffee with a shot of vodka in it) Brandies, flavoured gins (none London dry gin) flavoured Vodkas, Rums of any type and whiskeys (however you spell it) that are "blended" or messed about with (like Glenmorangie) are not as safe sorry. Hope this helps? P.S. never had a hangover on pure German beers. (not that I drink much ever these days).. other beverages.. not so good.

Thank you Bill, it did help. I was hoping you to "throw" some brands that you personally use, but thank you for allways contributing!

Any German beer that calls itself a "beer" has to be made from Barley malt, hops, water and yeast. Nothing else! If there are any other ingredients they cannot sell it as "beer" in Germany. So no brand names need to be listed, they are all good. Any Gin that claims to be "London Dry Gin" should be 100% sugar free and safe. Keep smiling Bill A.

I found this beer called Carlsberg, I went on theyr UK website to try to see the ingredient lista and apparently they use malted barley , hops, yeast and hope oil... Is Hop oil safe? Other version of the beer does not have the added hop oil, so Im not sure what difference does that oil make.. Is it for taste? Is hop oil fructose free? Couldnt find anything about it online..

Hops is safe yes. Carlesburg though is not as safe as it appears. I cannot drink much of it before starting to "feel" the fructose. There should not be any in there! I can drink 2 or 3x the amount of Becks or other German purity standard beer.. always its the alcohol that gets me 1st not being a big drinker anyway. I think UK brewed beers like Carlesburg and other "lagers" that are not real beers (in a true sense they are manufactured in huge chemical factories rather than brewed properly in vats) and are cheapened by the use of other "malts" made from maize and the like..
