Our 50th wedding anniversary year is coming up in 2019, so we are starting the year off with an exploratory 17-day adventure to Peru and Argentina, January 12th – 29th …to Cusco high in the Andes, by train to Machu Pichu, to the floating islands on Lake Titicaca that involves a home-stay for 2 nights with the native folks; then on to Iguazu Falls on the boarder of Argentina/Brazil. Food is going to be very interesting and challenging. I will probably loose some weight since taking enough special foods for me for 17 days will be impossible, (no doubt, will drink the “coca tea” as the elevations are staggering in some cases) -- also, we will need to travel light, especially if we have any hopes of bring back souvenirs. They eat guinea-pig in Peru -- I don’t think I can do that! Quinoa comes from there – love it in reasonable amounts and do well with that, so maybe I won’t starve completely. Hopefully, this should be an exotic trip with lots of unique, exotic sights and experiences to celebrate our golden year. We can check off 3 of the world’s great wonders from our Bucket List on this one trip! Any suggestions and helpful hints are greatly appreciated. We are trying to always stay in Air B&B’s so I can cook my own food if necessary.

Just got back from the trip --- wow! did we have an adventure and took close to 1000 pictures! Colormists suggestion of the little Grits packets I found in a supermarket here in Panama before we left saved the day! I could get safe hot water by ordering tea for the grits [along with my herbs I took along] and I was set. There were a couple of times there that was all I had for breakfast that was safe. Thank-you so much for the great suggestion -- so easy to pack and light-weight! If you all ever get to go to Peru, Machu Pichu, of course is spectacular as is the Falls of Iguazu; but for a truly unique and out-of-this world experience, you need to visit the floating island + Uros Indians of Lake Titicaca. We will never forget the unusual life style and culture of these people. Oh man, those floating islands look awesome. I had no idea they even existed. I'm glad you packed grits! I've used them a few times in a pinch. They are a lifesaver. I also found some safe meat sticks that are shelf stable, but I'm sure they weigh more than grits. I know there are little packets of oatmeal that might work, too, but I always have a reaction. I think they might be contaminated in the manufacturing process. What an amazing trip though. Congrats on the anniversary, amazing trip, and safe journey!
