Aksel's dad, Yes so far I am yet to see a genuine HFI safe foods list from ANY dietician anywhere in the world.
Even supposedly specialist genetic dieticians!
The problem is they are naturally sugar O'holics.
I will explain, everyone who is not HFI is naturally attracted to sweet foods if not actually addicted to them.
In the Fall or Autumn months fruit and root crops are at their sweetest, this coincides with the need to gain weight to get animals through the lean winter and early spring months.
So eating sugars cuts off the Leptin Cycle in the brain that tells a body when enough food has been eaten to provide adequately for the day. Therefore we eat more than is needed and get fat..
Now with the advent of manufactured foods taking up almost almost every single thing people eat has added sugar in it.
I have looked at supermarket checkouts and many peoples diets contain no foods whatsoever that do not contain added sugars or are naturally high in sugar.
This is why we have the current obesity crisis and associated health issues of Diabetes, none alcoholic fatty liver disease, Cancer!, high blood pressure, High Cholesterol levels etc etc etc.
That is why I created the food list based on the safest one I had seen.
It's rough granted, and needs polishing and a lot of explanations which are currently missing. I hope one day to get at it and sort it into something a bit more comprehensive and presentable.
However at the moment it works! and children who are kept on as low a Fructose diet as posible thrive and grow normally with no apparent negative problems.
Unlike those who are brought up on a much less nutritious diet.. in particular Vegan. There are more nutrients and essential minerals and vitamins in a 450g Rump steak that it is possible to get in an entire day of eating real vegetables and fruit. Yes some Frankenstein manufactured foods can claim a similar vitamin and mineral content.. however how much of that is actually available to the human digestions system?
There is a world of difference between an "analysis" of an item intended as food and the actual absorbability and availability of usable nutrition.
For example Protein in foods is measured by working out the amount of Nitrogen there is in the food.
This might actually be an added nitric salt or urea added to the food. The analytical equipment can not distinguish between them.
But to the parent feeding a child and expecting to get sufficient Protein for them to grow properly.. well... never get between a food manufacturer and a fast $ is all I will say..
They only care if you can prove a link between a problem and their product. I.E when it hits them in the pocket.
At least we know a plain beef steak or a portion of fish has the nutrients we need and in an absorbable fashion.
We have evolved over millions of years eating meat and Fish only recently have we started farming and eating farmed vegetables..
Less time still have we been eating manufactured foods. To you and I a carrot is an orange thing with a distinctive colour and smell. To a food manufacturer it is 150 odd products. none of them in anyway as nutritious as the original item.. unfortunately they do the same things to meat.
This is one reason why the HFI diet is so good. It is all mostly freshly prepared and un-molested food.
Sorry if this sounds like a rant.. because it is.. but sometimes I have to get things off my chest so to speak.
Above all do not worry about your child it will grow into a perfectly normal (for a given value of normal ) human being.
The key thing you can give your child is self confidence. teach it to cook from as early an age as is posible. this will help a lot.
Avoid all artificial sweeteners and flavourings (including glucose and dextrose) if at all posible.
To the person who has 4 spoons of sugar in a cup of coffee or tea .. a cup with 1 spoonful has no sugar..
Your child will need to be able to detect the slightest taint of sweetness in foods to remain safe in life.
I have travelled and intend to travel again around the world once Covid is brought under control again.
I can do this alone comfortably without too much planning because I am confident in my ability to detect sweetness and reject foods that will make me ill.
Where this becomes an issue is when invited around to peoples houses for meals parties etc.
Parties are easy to deal with I just offer to supply some food or turn up with some anyway.. that I can eat. This will work with your child as well.
Invite others around to birthday parties and provide everything HFI safe. few will notice the difference except for the birthday cake.
That is where ingenuity comes into play.
Trifles for example can be made without sugar or artificial sweeteners. one for your child one for everyone else.
Doughnuts can also be made sugar free. Mince pies can have real mine meat in them. there are many many ways to match sweet foods with none sweet.
I think some inventive mothers on the Facebook HIF in the Kitchen and others are getting very inventive and I think someone has managed to make a sugar free sponge cake now too!
Keep smiling keep confident and trust us here when we say your child will be fine and grow up to make you a proud man!
