Just got some advance info on future medical journal entry for HFI /Fructosemia. Peanuts are listed as unsafe (which is no surprise to me having been made ill several time after eating just a few of them) Think it's generally fine in its current form so far, but need to re read it and make comments yet. not sure if any of them will be taken on board or not.. who knows. I cannot copy it on here or comment further because it's copyrighted sorry.

Yeah, all nuts and peas are unsafe--peanuts included. I'll be interested to see the medical journal entry! I've read a few others and they mostly appear to be well over my head.

I'm OK with peanuts. They don't taste sweet to me. I find walnuts, brazils, almonds & pstochios OK but macadamias & cashews too sweet. I must've eaten 100-200g of pistachios and been fine.

Yeah, some foods take a while before you notice the effects. Peanuts are one of those foods. They feel okay for a few hours, but will have you feeling off by the next day. My hypo always spikes the next day if I eat peanuts.

I'm with Chris: I do OK with brazils, almonds, and walnuts; not so peanuts. Cashews make me ill. I buy straight, unsweetened almond butter and will spread it very thinly on 1/2 slice of bread for an occasional treat. As I have said before, I carry these nuts in my purse as backup for hypo (crackers get stale and broken) -- it only takes 3-4 to starve off that feeling until I can get home or to a restaurant and regular food. May not work for everyone; some of us are more sensitive than others.

There are at least 2 versions of HFI in one the Aldob B works but only at 10% of normal rate. In others (like myself) we have no working Aldob B at all so nothing really is safe for us at all.
It is always best to assume you have the 0% working version until you are told otherwise by a genetic specialist.
Peanuts are about 8% sugar so that is 4% Fructose.. 2g a day is the maximum for Fructose ingestion for someone with the 10% working version.. so 100g = total Fructose consumption for one day.. so if you have HFI go very easy on the nuts!

Hi Bill,
I didn't know that about some with HFI can produce up to 10% of aldo B. Do you have any links that I could read about it at?
Thanks, Ann
