My child is 11 and still needs a lot of help when she starts to get tired, thirsty, hungry, overheated. She sometimes can catch her blood sugar on the way down and get food/drink on time to prevent getting hypo. But often not. We are trying to keep to a very consistent schedule, but sometimes we need to do better at that. I am curious, at what age were people able to recognize and catch it in time then get themselves on road to recovery ?

It wasn't until I was a late teen that I noticed the shakes. But that was because my mom had mentioned she was feeling weak and shaky from low blood sugar and needed to eat something sweet (my mom does not have HFI, but does have hypoglycemia). I remember feeling shaky and eating a spoonful of sugar. I felt even worse afterwards. Sometimes I'm surprised I made it as long as I did without diagnosis.
I really think the easiest thing to notice is a shaky hand. Have her hold out her hand flat periodically through the day and see if she can hold it steady. If she can spot that, then noticing if she feels weak, tired, hot/sweaty, hungry or thirsty. Even now, I sometimes can get so busy or anxious/worried that I don't notice I'm hungry until my hands start shaking.

As always, Thank you for your input. I think i will program into her devices alarms so that when she is busy, whether at home or with friends, she will receive a reminder.
