HFIers and Fellow Parents of HFIers,
I have had autoimmune thyroid disease since I was 16 and have had a wide array of symptoms my whole life. My symptoms were getting worse and I was showing signs of developing another autoimmune disease over the past few years, no doubt from the stress of my son's health issues. I saw some improvement when I went gluten free 5 years ago and seeing how diet has changed my son's life, I knew that diet was the key to my health as well. So I researched AIP (autoimmune protocol). I began the AIP back in August and to say it has turned my health around is not an exaggeration. My symptoms disappeared, my labs improved within a month and I continue to feel/look better than ever. The diet is limiting (something you are all used to) and consists of protein, veggies and fruits. No soy, dairy, grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, or refined anything. There is some overlap with HFI but clearly some differences as well. One of the foods that gets me through the day, especially when on the go, is EPIC meat strips. I have found myself wishing they would make a bar that is HFI friendly (the one I eat has honey and all the other ones have some non-HFI-compliant ingredients). After asking myself, "Why can't they make a meat stick with just meat, salt and pepper?", I decided to ask THEM that question. I emailed EPIC and told them about the HFI diet and promised to help them find a customer base if they expand their product line (I am both a business professor and a passionate mom, after all). EPIC never replied.
Then, I found a competitor of EPIC's that makes meat sticks called CHOMPS. I ordered samples and these sticks have a yummy jerky consistency. I wrote to CHOMPS and heard back from them immediately! I asked if they could consider making a stick with just meat, salt and pepper. They said they were willing to help if there is evidence that they will have a regular customer base. Here is where you all come in. I know that you all struggle with finding foods for travel just like I do. These meat sticks are an excellent protein/fat source and they are GRASS-FED with no fillers. This could become an HFI staple for you and your kids, and I could spread the word on AIP, diabetic, and GSD forums as well.
CHOMPS sent me a survey to get an idea of who would be ordering this product. Will you fill out the survey and make the commitment to them that they are prepared to make to us?
Here is the questionnaire that the executive team asked me to send to you. Feel free to pass it on to ANYONE you think would be interested in this incredible, convenient and yummy food item to add to our limited repertoire:
