Haven't been on this board for a long time and am amazed how much it has grown. Received email from someone which has prompted me to update here incase anyone else thinks this may apply to them. megs is now 3 1/2 and things got progressively worse over winter so started pestering docs etc and managed to see pediatrician again with her. By now sleeping problem was becoming more consistent and a clearer pattern was developing with sometimes screaming for hours between 11pm and 3 am and seemed related to how much fruit or sugar she had had. She would then be very restless until 5 ish then settle. They tested and diagnosed helicobacter pylori which was causing ulceration in her stomach. She had two week course of 2 antibiotics and an antacid and she is now sleeping beautifully and settling well at night. At last. They will retest her in 1 month to see if it has gone. They do it by a fasting breath test then she had to drink 200mls of fresh orange juice and retest after 20 mins. She can now tolerate a certain level of fruit and veg and sugar so may not be HFI after all but some lesser prob.

Good for her. That would be great if she ends up not being HFI after all. Poor thing, her stomache must have been "burning" all that time. My mother had to be treated for pylori so I am a tad bit familar with it. Of course, she's old enough to say how her stomache felt.

hello everyone, gosh has it been 2 years since I last visited this site. Glad to see it is still here as now need further advise. After all the paediatrician pooh poohing fructose related problem I now find that I was right all along. Megan seemed to improve for a while after tt for helicobacter then gradually got worse so I have had over a year long battle to get her tested properly. Main reason they wouldn't test her is because she was thriving ok. prob more to do with my homecooking than anything else. Anyway a breath test went off their scale after 1 hour so oops, maybe better listen to mum now. Have read with interest several postings about absence episodes etc and will link onto these as she was being tested for petit mal epilepsy too. great to be back on board, feels like catching up with family. Hope everyone else is well and coping.
