Slime seems to be taking over the world - at least if you are in 5th grade. The traditional recipe has glue, shaving cream, saline. I gave in and let my daughter play with it and she became very ill. Missed a week of school ill. So, for her to be able to play with it like just about everyone else she knows, i found a safe recipe. 1 cup baking soda 1/2 cup cornstarch or flour 3/4 cup water Cook on stove, stir constantly, until texture is as desired ( slime/ modeling clay like). Pour onto plate to cool. Have fun playing. My daughter also added a safe lotion after it was cooled to improve the texture. Next we would like to try adding olive oil and/ or Shea butter instead of lotion. Does anyone know if Shea butter is safe for HFI ? Thanks

I don’t see any reason why shea butter is not safe- is she ingesting the slime? I’m an adult with HFI, and I make handcrafted soap as a hobby and use a lot of shea butter. But I am not super sensative though- so let’s see what other discussion board members think. The other ingredient that I really like to use in my soap is pure organic tallow. I buy it on ETSY from “Fannie and Flo”. They also have pure organic free range leaf lard, which I also use in my baking and soap making. People use these in pie crusts, soups, etc. They are very moisturizing and leave your skin feeling soft and not too dry. I’m curious about shea butter and other HFI’ers experiences...

I have not noticed an issue with the Shea butter lotion and moisturizing body wash I buy at Bath & Body Works. So long as you don't eat it, you shouldn't have to worry about the ingredients (barring other medical concerns). I also use a sugar scrub in the shower a few times a month.

Thanks. That is good to know - i figured it was safe and had bought a big tub of it, but hadn’t had the chance to research yet. 😊

Is there a recipe for slime that is Elmer's glue and contact solution or something like that. we are not into all of that yet since my son is only 4, but I thought I heard that somewhere?

Yes, that is the combination that made her sick. Glue, shaving cream, contact solution. It is disgusting and we just gave in because almost everything for her is cracked down. There are tons of recipes on you tube and Pinterest. Sadly, most kids she knows are playing with it right now. The alternative recipe i posted above is keeping her happy for now. She is happy to not feel left out.
