My daughter is 6. Mornings are so rough for us. We are new to HFI. Getting her to eat so that she can function mentally and not have mood swings is quite the challenge. Any ideas or suggestions to make our morning routine better is very much appreciated!

I often start out the day with a glass of milk for my child while she is still in bed, especially if she sleeps late. She also has a small lunch box size of milk by her bed at night if she wakes up in middle of night. ( you could try the milk with cornstarch before bed with a snack, or if you are able, wake her a bit around 2am to drink milk with a straw) We usually do toast or pancakes with a meat and cheese, and large glass of water.

Thanks for the ideas. I've been wondering if I need to wake her. What pancake recipe do you use and do you use a syrup or put anything on top? What kind of bread? Thanks again!!

I have posted both bread recipes i use on here previously. If you click to see my posts the recipes will show up. One is an English muffin bread and the other i make in the bread machine. I want to try the sour dough as Ukbill mentioned over the holidays. For pancakes, it is super simple - 1 cup flour, one cup milk, one egg, 2 teaspoon baking powder. Mix, let stand 5 minutes, cook. I use as waffle recipe too. Yo child like just butter on top. My child often seems to stir a little at 2am. She barely wakes for milk and then is in deep sleep 💤

For breakfast we do a couple things. we make pancakes. you could make some and freeze and then pop in the toaster for other days. We do store bought crumpets. They are by the butter and eggs. I think I they are called country farm. They have a clear package with a green horse and buggy on it. on the pancakes and the crumpet we add butter an cinnamon.
I also make egg cups. I use mini muffin tins and spray with olive oil spray. scramble the eggs and cheese and the bake. They are a good grab and go too. and are easy to heat up later on.
also, I try not to focus to much on "breakfast foods" for breakfast. sometimes my son grabs a string cheese and some crackers on the way to daycare. I also even make a "smoothie" I take his plain greek yogurt and add milk until is thins out and he can drink it in the car on the way to daycare.
we always do milk before water in the mornings. I have read that many people feel hypo if they drink water first thing.
Hope this helps!
