I have attached the Addenbrooks supposedly "safe" HFI food list.. They (Addenbrooke's hospital Cambridge UK) are the leading knowledge base for genetic conditions in the UK.. which is a real worry because the food list shows a terrible lack of understanding about the condition. I get criticised for knocking the Medical profession.. however when they give "advise" that is plainly dangerous to their patents.. if we do not point this out.. people will die.

This list is awful, but your comments made me chuckle. I would move avocado into the middle column. I would never eat it more frequently than in less-than-portion-size quantities a couple times a month.

I think like a lot of things, Potatoes and lemons for example, its largely the different varieties that contain more or less Fructose.
So where you live and local available varieties are relevant to a safe diet.

I have never found any useful advice from doctors other than the information that me and my sister had the condition. The variability in vegetables regionally is probably a big factor though like you mentioned. The pattern of breeding crop varieties to be sweeter is not helping either. Had an interesting conversation with my Romanian housemate you was complaining that the vegetables in the UK taste too sweet for example.

Hi. I am new to the board. I have a 2 year old ( diagnosed at 8 months) with hfi. I have kept his diet pretty basic to keep him as healthy as possible. He eats tons of plain Greek yogurt, Applegate chicken nuggets, milk, egg noodles or spaghetti with butter, cheese, hfi safe crackers and the occasional french fry. He doesn't seem to mind the monotony of his daily meals but I am sure in the upcoming years he will want and need to expand his diet. I would like to learn how to make my own hfi safe bread but have absolutely no idea how to. Can someone give me a step by step instructional?

Adamsmom! You just listed all my favorite foods! This is my favorite bread recipe and the first bread I've made that I actually liked: simplysogood.blogspot.com/2010/03/crusty-bread.htmlIt has very clear and easy to follow instructions. Lodge has a cast iron pan that is significantly cheaper than the one used in the instructions.
