Our son's dietician has told us to avoid all garlic, including garlic salt and powder. But I've seen some posts on here that sound like people do okay when these are used in moderation. As my son is only 3, he can't tell me when he's feeling crummy. Can any of the HFI adults share their experiences with these ingredients? It would be amazing if we didn't have to eliminate everything that has garlic salt or powder in it!
Thanks!

Our experience with HFI daughter and garlic in any form is not good. She blows up like a balloon and gets very hypoglycemic. Actually, this reaction is what lead us to diagnosis. Kids are much smaller than adults and doesn't take much to cause a trouble (at least at our house).
I have to say the best part of just giving up on eating out and prepared foods is the money that is saved. Of course, it's not as Convenient, but gets easier in time.
Good luck.

I agree with Jenn. I use garlic in moderation (at most, once a week) and do not filter out ingredients that list garlic salt/powder, but I'm an adult with an adult-sized liver. I would wait until he's a little bit older and can communicate better before trying anything with garlic salt or garlic powder. qas-shared-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/snaps/f5h0w0s08xs9k9For reference, here's what CSIDs says is in garlic salt and garlic powder. Garlic powder looks to be in the 'do not feed to children' bracket, but garlic salt might be worth a trial when they're old enough to tell you how they feel after eating the food.

Thank you, but what a bummer. I thought Hebrew national got dogs were safe but they do have garlic (salt, I think). I guess it's time to get friendly with the butcher... or learn to make sausages!
