Hi everyone,
Last month, I went for fructose hydrogen/methane breath test and it was recommended at that time not to take the test. Today, I got a letter stating I am to see a dietician, in the Digestive Disease department at Mcmaster. The appointment is for a consultation only. Tests and procedures will be booked after this appintment. I was told when I called they want to discuss my fructose free diet. What information should I bring with me to give this dietician. I was thinking my grocery list - medical history - not sure what else. Hope you can give me some other suggestions. Thanks

I hope you have a better experience with the dietician than I have ever had. I have been told I can eat bananas and nuts along with a list of dangerous foods too long to list. Write down one of your Hypo events. giving a timeline from eating the wrong food to say 2 days later or when you felt fully recovered. Tell them how you felt and the physical effects you experienced and possibly also the effects as seen by others with you. Hope this helps? Keep smiling

I found it helpful to bring pictures of the food labels so the dietician could read the ingredients. I also take a food diary that includes what foods for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, and also how my sons feels. If he has a night terror, or restless night, or if he is extremely grouchy. that way we can look back for foods that may have been eaten a certain number of days before hand to see if there was a reaction.
Good luck at your appointment, but as Bill said, please don't take their word as gold. HFI is so unheard of, and there isn't very much medical research out there to come up with truly safe food lists or diets. many dieticians have never worked with the condition before.

Taking a picture of a food item and it's ingredient label is very helpful. We did that too.
