My dad was crazy sick at our annual Christmas party. He also forced me to kiss/hug him (against my screaming protest about his plague-ridden body). So, of course, when I get back home I'm dealing with an upper respiratory infection.
I had my husband go get me tissues with lotion, sore throat spray, and some cold meds. I said to "make sure there's not sugar!"
HAHAHAHA
So, he brings me back pills (Walmart generic Cold & Flu). I double-check the ingredients because he doesn't have the sugar list memorized and it's safe.
I pop two pills in my mouth and they are coated in sugar.
Of course they are.
I read the ingredients again "flavor" is listed. That "flavor" must be sugar.
Thankfully I was in a similar situation at my parents a few years ago. I had a huge allergic headache and my mom only had Tylenol Cold & Sinus (which lists sugar on the ingredients). I took those pills over to the sink and rinsed them until the blue coloring on the pills disappeared, which got rid of the sugar.
So I've been doing the same with these pills. I rinse them until the yellow coloring disappears from the pill and then they taste absolutely awful. But at least I don't have to deal with kidney pain, nausea, vomiting, and hypoglycemia on top of coughing, sneezing, stuffy head, headache, and sore throat.
Of course this would not work with gel capsules or cough syrup, but at least if you can't find sugar-free cold medicine you can wash your sugary pills every four hours to help with the symptoms.
