Are there any brands of takeout pizza (no sauce) that are safe? I saw Dominos mentioned in an old thread but I assumed that all dough has sugar so wasn't sure if we should try this for our little guy.
What are your favorite toppings? I'm thinking mushroom, spinach, hamburger... what am I missing?

Dominos thin crust, no sauce, extra cheese (to make up for the no sauce), mushrooms, olives, feta, spinach. <--My go to pizza
Sometimes I do mushrooms & pepperoni. Never thought of hamburger! Chicken might be good, but I'm not sure if their chicken is safe. Banana peppers are yummy, too.

Thank you! Is most pepperoni safe, or just Dominoes? I hadn't thought of banana peppers, I assumed that they weren't safe. Are pickles (depending on the ingredients) generally safe (not for Pizza, just in general )?

Pickles?? depends on what they are and if they are pickles in sweetened vinegar.. and the source of the vinegar.. (Cider / wine vinegar is obviously out)
I used to eat a lot.. but then I used to be ill much of the time.
Onions are out.
Male cucumbers (prickly girkins) I think are safe but always pickled in sweet vinegar even when no sugar is shown on the label.
Cauliflower florets (with as much stalk cut off as posible ) is safeish as is a very small amount of pickled red cabbage (but not white cabbage)
If making your own pickled red cabbage for an HFI person avoid the stalks (fleshy bits) and use only the thin leafy parts of the leaf.. I know this is a pain and not easy so reduce as much as is practicable and soak the cut cabbage for some time (2 hours or more) is plenty of water which will reduce the fructose load a lot!
Distilled white malt vinegar is safest and make your own pickles I suggest.
I pickle chilies as a way to reduce the fructose load in them. And it seems to work.
Green beans are not generally very good but if cut up and soaked in water for a good time before pickling will make them safer.

HI Rachael, I know you are looking for takeout, but when we get pizza, I make Ryan pizza with a crumpet, kinda like an English muffin. its in the refrigerator section. I add some olive oil and some spices and then cheese. you could add mushrooms too. Then we are all eating "pizza". I think there is also a true pizza dough in the freezer section. Colormist, had found it. I think it was Pepe's brand? She may chime in again and confirm.

We use crusts from Against the Grain. I special order them by the case from Whole Foods. No sauce, no gluten and no added sugars. We add steak or chicken, Parmesan and a little arugula.

Yes! Pepe's Pizza Dough! I always make sure I have a some in reserve.
I also use Martha White's Dry pizza dough mix (in the pizza/Italian section).
Crumpet idea sounds amazing! I'm going to have to try that.
As for Pepperoni, I think it (on average) has a 75% chance of being safe. Of course always read the label. I really like the Hormel mini pepperonis for pasta salads and pizza monkey bread.
Some banana peppers and some dill pickles can be not safe. Always read the ingredients. The one time you don't will be the one time where some manufacturer snuck some fructose in where there shouldn't be. Like Bill said, they can brine it in an unsafe vinegar or add sugar to make them sweeter. I found a dill pickle relish a few years back that was amazing on hot dogs.
My husband bought this HUGE jar of Vlasic dill pickle slices a few months back. I love pickles so much and was happy to have them until I read the label: High Fructose Corn Syrup. It's not a DILL pickle if you add sweetener. That's called a sweet pickle! ARGH.

Thanks, everyone, this was super helpful as usual! We were getting takeout pizza while traveling but I'll have to try the Crumpets when we are home. I haven't seen them in the grocery store but I might not be looking in the right places. I couldn't get Pepe's from our Walmart but we have used Kroger baking mix (I can't always get it to rise correctly, though, so prepared dough is a live saver). I'll check out Against the Grain at Whole Foods.
