So, I've read that human milk contains fructose, wich is problematic for babies with HFI. Why do people assume cow's, sheep, and goat dairy to be safe?specially the milk, wich is not a fermented product? I understand the diet the animal has will influence the milk nutritional profile, and since the human diet is high in fructose, it makes sense that human milk will contain a certain amount of this sugar. But what about cow's and other animal's dairy? They are herbivores,so in theory they only eat fructose containing foods, specially if its dairy from an animal that is not grass fed only. What do you guys with HFI think about this? And do you have issues with dairy? Specially milk. I know butter will be a pretty safe product since almost all sugars and protein are removed, but do you have problems with milk? Like, can you over do it? If you search nutritional content of milk, it will list lactose as the only sugar, but considering what I said previously, is there a possibility that lactose might not be the only sugar present in milk, like it happens with human milk?

I do not have any issues with MOST dairy (barring the flavored stuff like vanilla yogurt or honeyed cream cheese). I only have HFI. We do have a few members here who have HFI and issues with lactose--which makes their diet more complicate.
I would not have survived childhood if milk had any fructose in it, so I'm not sure where you read that. From my research (and experience) it only has lactose. I have drank milk almost every day since the day I was born. Milk in my coffee, milk in my cereal, milk in a glass, and breast milk when I was an infant.
Lots of us here also default to a glass of milk and saltines when hypoglycemia hits because we know it'll safely pull us back up to normal blood glucose levels.
The only fructose or sucrose or sorbitol I know of that infants have to be careful with is in most baby formulas. HFI parents are actually told to (if at all possible) feed their infants breast milk. Most signs of HFI don't even make themselves known until the infants are moved from breast milk to solid foods.

colormist x2 I'm the same Mothers milk I believe might contain Fructose but only if the nursing mother is taking far too much Fructose for her own health in which case it will leach through the barrier. If a mother is nursing a known HFI baby (unusual to get diagnosis so young) then avoiding anything sweet for 40 min before feeding will sort the problem out. Keep smiling

Baby formulas that contain Corn Syrup solids or glucose are likely to be unsafe for HFI children.. certainly Corn Syrup solids are really really bad!

I was told by one of the Drs that is trying to find a cure for us with HFI that milk is safe because lactose does not process through the liver which is where a lot of the problems exist. I have had milk at a staple my whole life with no issues. I use to think I had a lactose problem until I found out I had HFI confirmed by a DNA test and I am on a strict no fructose diet but I drink a lot of milk and the stomach aches I use to have are gone. Hope this helps. I am not a specialist but I do have HFI and that's what I have found.
