Just to let everyone know. At our last visit to Children's Hospital in Philadelphia, they wanted to know why Bailey was behind on his vaccines. I told them that I would not allow him to have any more as he did not do well with the first few. They were really pushing for him to get the MMR shot. Well, I read the insert that come with the vaccine manufactured by Merck, and it has 14.5 mg of sorbitol and1.9mg of sucrose. I have not read the rest of the inserts that come with the vaccines, but I would recommend that you read the ingredients in the vaccine before you allow your child to have it. Just thought I should pass this info along. Jen F.

That is wonderful information, thank you. We have Gillianne's 18 month well child visit this week and we are very behind in her immunizations. My ped and I decided to hold everything since she was 9 months because we knew something just wasn't right but we didn't have a diagnosis yet. I will bring that up with her before we attempt to get back on track.
She was also able to find a chewable antibiotic that she ordered through the manufacturer for us to keep on hand. Gillianne also has an IgA immunodeficiency so she ends up needing antibiotics alot, we thought we needed to be prepared. I have been so happy with my peds dedication to finding alternatives for Gillianne without resistance even though she doesn't know much about this either.

My son, Davi, received all vaccines and he had just the reactions commons to all children ( fever, local pain, etc). I think that information about the composition of the vaccines is very important, but I also think that no received vaccine could be more prejudicial. What is the orientation from the Doctors?

Zanoah's vaccines were eventually stopped before she was given the MMR. It has sorbital and succrose here as well.
At the time we didn't know why but one of her first vaccines ended with a small siezure, when we finally discovered why we got a medical decision not to proceed and paper work was filled out so all the schools and everything can't hassles you.
Because the vaccine sheet reads up to date even though some have been missed.

I thought there may be some sugar in the vaccines, as they need to preserve them with something and can't use mercury any more. I went to our doctor's office and asked the nurse there for the insert that comes in the box with the vaccine. I would check every insert as different manufacturers may use different preservatives. CHOP has not gotten back to me yet on any safe vaccines. Jen F.

Most of Reginas vaccines were given before we knew what her problems were.
BUT she gets a flu shot every year and she has no reaction whatsoever. I only get concerned on the ones that are to be taken orally. They seem to be the only ones that cause a problem. We've never had a problem with a shot. I'm guessing the sugar doesn't make it to the blood stream when injected into muscle.

We did opt to do the Hib vaccine yesterday. She has never had adverse reactions in the past so I was okay in allowing it. I think the content is much less then the MMR (which contains sucrose and sorbitol). My pediatrician did agree that we should not do the MMR, for now, because technically we are still in a diagnostic period. I meet with the biochemical geneticist next week, I will be curious to see what he says. I think alot of it goes back to the levels of tolerance that each individual has and also how many vaccines they get at one time that contain sucrose.

Actually, Regina had to have all the same shots. She only got out of school 2 years ago. As they changed the shots, she also had to have them.
I can't remember which one was oral. I'm thinking maybe polio. But I'm also thinking that they don't even require that one anymore. Or is it small pox they don't require?
I know for sure she had the HiB, although that was one she got when she was older to keep up with the new laws. She actually got the whole series of HiB twice as it didn't show in her lab work that it took. Her gastoenterolgoist wanted them repeated.
She also had MMR when she was small. I'm not sure about chickenpox, because she actually had the chickenpox when she was just 7 weeks old. I think she still had the shot though because she was so young that the Dr wanted to be sure. (Her older brother brought the pox home from school)
And she gets a flu shot every year. I don't know what kind it was. And it was given by different drs over the past few years due to changing from a pediatrician to a family dr, then that dr retiring, and the next one leaving the area. Hopefully the family dr we have now will stay. I hope not to chase this one away.
