Can anyone reccomend a toothpaste for my son. I think i remember some one saying that there is a kind with no sorbitol? Also just wondering if this is reccomended only while he is young and will most likley swallow some, or do all HFI use this same toothpaste?

Toothpaste is one of those things I gave up trying to find safe versions of. I just make sure to spit it out. I think other parents have managed to find safe toothpastes, though. Hopefully they'll chime in.

Thanks Colormist! So you dont have any effects as long as you spit it out? or do you have effects, but deal with it?

We are using R.O.C.S. Baby (http://www.rocsinfo.com/baby_toothpaste_linden_eng.html) for our 1 year old son, but I don't know if it's available everywhere.. We have to order it in Germany.

On this note, what do folks tell the dentist about HFI? My little one has his first appointment next week and I'm thinking of asking them to not use any paste when they brush his teeth since he doesn't spit yet.

Our dentist has been great. I gave them a print out on HFI, links to this pin board and Boston university. I also put him in contact with our genetist. They use unflavored everything for her appointments and we compound the rub on lidocaine without unsafe ingredients for any procedures.

Until he can spit toothpaste out, we just use water and a toothbrush. His dentist says his teeth look great because of the fructose-free diet. They use plain pumice for his cleanings.
