I see some of you can eat oatmeal. Is this an occasional ingredient or can you eat it everyday?

I've been able to eat it everyday without issue. It has less fiber than shredded wheat (which I think has more fructose than oatmeal) and the fiber just makes my life a little bit easier.

I can eat oatmeal everyday with no trouble, but have not been eating breakfast much lately.

Do you only eat oats labeled gluten free? My son is 19 mos and liver was damaged until we figured out Dx at 18 mos so I am being extremely cautious.

People with HFI do not have issues with gluten. The gluten intolerance is a completely different issue that is entirely separate from HFI.

I suppose I should have typed wheat-free. My concern is any possible trace of whole wheat and I don't know how else to guarantee that other than looking for a gluten-free label.

High fiber foods while being essential (and largely missing in the HFI diet) has problems.. normal Oat and Wheat Fibre is partly or largely digestible. This happens in the small intestine and the cellulose in the fibre breaks down and turns into Sucrose.. yes sugar! So here is where we join to FM (Fructose Malabsorption) people with symptoms. Some of the sucrose is transferred through the intestinal wall and into the blood stream and the rest is got at by yeasts and bacteria which turn it into Gas and causes inflammation of the bowel and a low level problem with Fructose Phosphate hanging around in the blood causing problems. None digestible Fibre such as Psyllium husks are a revelation to the normal HFI'er The lower the Fructose intake I can manage the better I feel.

For those of you who eat oatmeal, would you mind posting how big a serving size, based on uncooked volume? Seems like if it's your whole breakfast, it'd be a lot of fructose, but it would also be nice to have a non-meat breakfast!

I eat somewhere between 1/2 cup - 3/4 cup of oatmeal (uncooked) with a lot of milk and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
