The easiest way to check for HFI is to stop eating all foods that contain the sugars fructose or sucrose. That is also the treatment, as there is no medicine with which to treat it. If you have HFI and you do the above, you will feel a heck of a lot better within a couple of days. Don't mess around trying to see what is fructose free or low in fructose. Just stop all sweets to start with.

You can easily find out what foods are free of fructose and/or sucrose by using the on-line database at NHI. Once you are feeling better, you can try adding small amounts of food that contain minute amounts of sucrose (table sugar) or fructose (fruit sugar) say 100 mg per day. That by the way, 100 mg, per day is my tolerance and I was diagnosed when I was in my twenties and now I am 76 years old.
Don't fight it, just get on with eliminating it. If you do have HFI and you keep eating the wrong foods, it can seriously damage your liver, and you can't have a good life with a bad liver.
