Hi,
I need some advice. I want to go on birth control but am a little worried about it. I tried to take the pill but that made me sick, so I was looking at the Depo shot. I was wondering if anyone had tried it or could tell me what worked for them.
Thanks

I haven't had the depo shot. The only three I've tried are Implanon (a stick they insert in your arm that lasts for 3 years), the patch (clear sticker you put on you body once a week) and Trisprintec. I've done well on all three. No major side effects. Have you talked to your doctor? They might have some options for you or know of an alternative that won't make you sick. I'm horribly afraid of needles, so I couldn't handle a shot every few months.

I did talk to my doctor. She thought that the pill was making me sick cause the sugar comes in the same pack. She thinks that the depo shot would be a good option so long as no-one with HFI has had issues with it. I hate shots as well but only cause I almost always get sick afterwards due to the sorbitol. Does the patch come off easily? I am an athlete so am worried that it will come off.

I put the patch on my upper butt. I think there are a few different places you can put it so you could choose which location you felt would be less likely to fall off. I noticed mine did best on my butt. I walked a lot and jogged a little. It peeled somewhat on the corners, but pretty much stayed firmly attached throughout the week. It's got some serious sticky adhesive. I would only imagine that it would fall off closer to the end of the week (when you would change it anyway).
My doctor took me off the patch because it had a significantly higher odds of causing blood clots, so keep that in mind.
There's also an IUD, which might work for you. I have issues with tampons causing me pain & discomfort, so I passed on the IUD and went straight to the arm implant.
