Last year I noticed that the small tree growing in my front yard of my new house had all the markings of a Wild Cherry Tree. When I was a wee lass, my favorite tree to climb on my farm was a Wild Cherry Tree. It had smooth bark and once a year it would produce delicious sour fruit. I used to climb it and pretend I was a captain astronaut heading off into space. I haven't seen a Wild Cherry Tree since my tree was destroyed in a tornado. The one growing in my front yard is small (about 6-feet tall or two meters) and it has just started to produce fruit. On a whim yesterday I decided to try two nearly ripe cherries. They were half red, half yellow. I figured if I didn't try them now, that I'd turn around and the birds would have them all devoured in a blink of an eye. The fruit was very tart & sour, but yummy. I didn't have a hypoglycemic reaction later and I didn't get nauseated, but my urine was dark yellow (and has been since I ate the fruit). I was really hoping that unripened fruit wouldn't have as much fructose as ripe fruit, but I guess that theory is a bust. But, at the very least, I was finally able to put it to the test.

Oh you brave brave girl. Those are sour even when they are ripe. I can't imagine how sour it is unripe. Yummy is not the word I would have used lol.
