Actually went to an Urgent Care facility and they sent me to the ER. I got so tired of explaining my condition to EVERYONE. I should have just put everything on a tape recorder. How is this efficient?
So, I went to the ER because I've been having severe stomach pain. I'm pretty sure it's an issue unrelated to HFI, but I was also currently having an HFI-related reaction, so that was confusing everyone. My best guess was an issue with my gallbladder or ulcers. They gave me medicine for the ulcer possibility and I made them check it for sweeteners. It had aspartame in it. I couldn't remember which artificial sweetener that was, but I did remember Regina drinks Diet Pepsi without issue and that drink has an artificial sweetener in it. My husband and the clinician were both able to confirm that, yes, aspartame was the sweetener in Diet Pepsi. So, thanks Regina! You helped me trouble shoot a medical concern at the hospital!
I have a follow-up visit with a gallbladder specialist later to check what's going on with my sludge-y gallbladder. I presume the sludge came to be because I went on a low-carb diet for two weeks.
They put an IV in my arm and I was so concerned about being stabbed that I didn't even think to check to see what was in the IV. I had my husband read off the label. Thankfully it was saline. I feel like this whole ER visit was a trial run for my husband and I for any visits in the future.
They also found out my liver enzymes were elevated--which was to be expected because I had been eating some new foods recently and I wasn't completely sure they were safe to eat. Actually, I know for certain the Funyuns were not safe to eat, but you can't pull them out of your system three days later. At least now I know for certain that my kidney pain is directly related to elevated liver enzymes.
My ER Doctor is also sending me to a pediatrician who is more familiar with liver issues and wants me to visit them on a annual basis to keep track of how my liver is doing. I'm going to finally be the tallest patient in the building!
