So far we have added organic chicken and earth's best organic oatmeal. I need specific brands and items that are a definite safe. I will not "try" tolerated at this time as it seems too iffy and the closest children's hospital is 3+ hours from my home! I have tried reaching out to people on this board via messages or through facebook/blogs with little success. I need another mother/person that I can text and ask reactions before feeding my son new foods. I'm not asking to be annoying - I am asking because I am new to this and afraid I'm going to poison him! I bought pure dextrose to make him a birthday cake for his party but am unsure of the flour & brands I have purchased. I may just feed him oatmeal at his party as I only have a few days for an answer.

I'm not sure if I've shared this before, but I made a list of HFI-safe food stuff. If you want to stay away from the tolerated items, avoid anything that's a fruit or vegetable on this list. The primary foods are at the bottom of this list. The top includes recipes I've found. Please be sure to read my notes as they contain specific instructions on how to prepare the recipe and what to look out for when buying food. EDIT: I don't have children myself, so I'm not sure about what shape of food is okay, but you might be able to do white potatoes, pancakes, or waffles. Pancakes or waffles would definitely be closest to a cake.

Hi Kollynsmom, will leave you in Laura's hands with brands as we are in the UK. Maybe try Claudia Rivas too, I know she has started a blog, will look for link tomorrow but she is also on facebook. She has done well with weaning her son safely. Charlie

I would recommend staying away from giving her sweets made with Dextrose as you will just confuse the situation. I have had 44 birthdays without a cake and do not miss it one bit. I was fed baked pototoes and plain pasta my first couple of years (only things I would eat).

I'm with 'denverjay' on this one, only I've had 75 birthdays without a cake. That also means 75 birthdays without being sick.

Birthdays should be about the person not the gimmicks........ I have said this many a time now on the Facebook pages I am on as parents get distraught about making a birthday cake. I once went all out and made one, with glucose but used colouring........ She threw up for 5 hours....... Never again.
Make special memories, be different..... And others eventually will follow, but more importantly your child will thank you.....

Hi! I am not sure that I qualify as very helpful as my lo was diagnosed at 15 months and is just going to turn two in May, so we are new to this. That said, I make quite a bit of safe food for him, and he is healthier than we ever imagined he would be. I am happy to share what I've learned and created! What are you looking to make? I make pancakes, chicken nuggets, feed him hot dogs, make pizza, make muffins that aren't sweet at all but look like our muffins, etc. is this what you are looking to make? I can't say I buy much ready prepared food as I get a bit nervous about long ingredient lists with him. I also haven't delved into baking with dextrose so I can't help there. But like I say, I am happy to share anything that might be helpful!!! Just reply or message what you are looking for in terms of foods. :-)
