Hi,
My dietician said that sago is safe for HfI (i'm currently awaiting genetic test results). I've searched on the board, but can't find any mentions of it.
Has anyone tried sago and know whether it is safe for HfI? I'm only just getting over quite a poorly period, so don;t want to risk and test without checking with others!!
Thanks Kate

Hi kmart
Sago, which according to the internet, is sometimes called "pearl" and is similar to Tapioca which is also sometimes called "pearl". Sago does not appear on the Nutrition Data website but Tapioca does and one cup(152g) contains 5.1g of sugars. They don't have a breakdown on which sugars, so it might be a good idea to just play it safe and not use it. 5.1g of sugar would certainly be over my daily tolerance which is 100mg of fructose.

That sounds like an error as frequently happens with analysis. I have 100% safe potato starch which the label says is 85% sugar!! Err no its not! I eat Sago occasionally I beleive it is actually tree sap from a tree called supprisingly the "Sago tree" It dose have a small Fructose load according to the label on my packet (assuming its acurate) If I was you I wouls stay very safe for now until you are fully recovered. If you are looking for a safe pudding then why not use short grain polished rice? Cook it in milk and add a little nutmeg and unsalted butter and you will have a pudding fit for a King or Queen. Its lovely. I could live on pasta, cheese, mushrooms, meat and rice pudding happily for life. Oh yes infact I think I mostly do really Ps Glocose and the like is all contaminated with fructose and is very unsafe for HFI people if u are recovering from a bad episode do jot be tempted to use it, otherwise u can get into a downward spiral very easily with it.
