UKBill mentioned Marmite in another post as being safe for HFI. My daughter hasn't been diagnosed as having HFI but is very sensitive to fructose.
We have found that she reacts to Marmite and when you read the label it has 'vegetable extract' as one of the ingredients. Tesco and Morrisons do their own 'Yeast Extract' product which doesn't contain vegetable extract and she is fine with both of them. It is a staple in our household now - it's great in shepherds pie instead of stock. thanks Charlie for that suggestion!
Interestingly the Tesco one was recalled recently due to causing a histamine response in people! It was unavailable while they changed the recipe which caused many tears in our house until we found a similar product at Morrisons.

Interestingly Megan used to live on marmite and seemed to cope but over this last 6 months has refused to have it, maybe they have changed the recipe. I always was unsure of the vegetable extract, some even list celery as well but it did seem to be OK for Megs so a low enough sugar for her to cope with. I will have to look out the own brand ones and see if she likes those. Recently Marmite produced an XX one which has the stronger taste like in the olden days, I wasn't aware how mild it had become till my mother pointed it out having brought the XX brand.
Whenever you do a roast beef or pork always keep every scrap of the juice and fat as that makes excellent stock, I use some for gravy that day and put some in small pots in the freezer to use.

Thanks Charlie!! Saving roast drippings/juices/fat is a great idea.
Does everyone know this general "ice cube tray" trick? *Pour drippings etc into an ice cube tray and freeze. *Once frozen, pop them out and store in a freezer style bag. *Voila. Approximately 1oz. cubes for recipes.
