Today 27th May 2013 at 3.30pm the BBC radio 4 good food program did a whole program about the dangers and problems with the current high sugar intake of the population.
They highlighted the direct links to diabetes and obesity!
Dr Lustig and several other researchers were on the program and they even went into the addiction / addicts aspect of sugar consumption.
I only caught part of the program and missed a bit of that because I was trying to phone people to get them to listen too.
There is now a fighting fund paid for by the European Sugar producers to produce misleading and confusing research information also to legally challenged and delay legislation which is being considered to restrict the amount of sugar put in our foods.
So the war is joined!
Its like the tobacco wars all over again!
I hope this time we can get some initial class case legal action going against Coke and Pepsi for causing Diabetes.
Or at least get the legal cases that are ongoing published!

OK Update on BBC World service one night this week there was a discussion on a program called "More Or Less" its a program about maths and government statistics.. taking apart government announcements and checking to see if the quoted "facts" are correct! Its a program every country could have to keep an eye on the statements of politicians who distort figures and lie all the time, sorry I should say "produce statistical "facts" that support their arguments".. which is usually the same thing as a lie! As the presenters of this program frequently point out. Anyway they were looking into the problems with the increase in life span for various parts of the world (and reductions in some countries) They were talking about further increases in life span.. because for us who live in the western societies every year we live medical science, the reduction in smoking and better nutrition increases our life span by about 4 months. So a female child born today could expect to see her 120th birthday! They were talking about negative factors that might reduce this increase and they mentioned Obesity as the main current and future killer of people. They also discussed that for none smokers / obese people that the main future increase in life span and health will come from controlling blood sugar levels! YAY! the word is getting out there at last! Eating Sugar will increase your blood sugar levels, therefore reduce your life expectancy and is by inference a killer! Official! So what now? Is being a "good Parent" still feeding your children Coke, sweets, cakes, Macdonalds, cookies etc etc which are full of all types of sugar and fat? Or being more sensible and avoiding these poisonous foods?
