Hi!
I've seen people mention on a few threads that they take digestive enzymes. I've always struggled with wheat / cows milk - so wondered whether enzymes would help and thought i'd give it a try.
Does anyone have any recommendations / know of ones that are safe to take? the only ones i've seen come contain 'fructus' / soy!?
thanks!!
Kate

Hi Kate, as you are still early in diagnosis I wouldn't take anything for now that clouds the issue. If you have HFI you should be OK with wheat and dairy if that is all you have and you may find once you sort the fructose issues your body may cope with other things. However you may also have other conditions going on. wheat does have fructans in it which is a fructose molecule so if you are very sensative then that may be the reason. also if you have FM then the fructans can also be a problem and they don't seem to so far have a replacement as it is the protein carrier that may be missing to pull the fructose through the villi in the small intestines. However, if it turns out that you do have separate issues my stepmother found polysyme forte made by Biocare which looks safe, she takes it for lactose problems and says it works well, it contains lactase, sucrase, maltase, protease, lipase and bromelane to help digest just about everything. they are £19.75 for 60 tablets and don't have anything fructose in them. You take one capsule with a main meal. www.biocare.co.ukI haven't tried them on Meg yet as we still don't know what is going on exactly.

Thanks Charlie - that's really helpful and i'll bear them in mind.
I'm still on a really strict diet of rice / meat/ fish (and feeling so much better for it!!). I'm going to hold of reintroducing things for a while yet and as you say, i might be able to cope with other things better once things have improved. Regardless - i'm just happy i'm starting to feel better!! Kx

Hi Kmart, dont' know if you're still looking, but we just found a digestive enzyme supplement called Zycarb which is just the enzymes, totally free of any additives except cellulose capsule and microcrystalline cellulose - in tiny amounts too. I actually empty it out of the capsule for my baby and she is super sensitive but has tolerated it well - it seems to be helping her digest my breastmilk.
If you would like to get some, pm me and I'll send you a link where I found it cheaply. Nicole
