We played the "just a little should not be a problem" game when Zander was 3. At the time we only restricted fruit/juice (they told us he had toddler diareaha. At his preschool they had about 2 oz of juice at snack time 2 days a week (tue/thur). I did not think that little amount was a problem but, we would always have issues with his behavior on wed and fri. It took almost the full school year for me to figure this out.
I would recommend that you go back to the HFI diet today. It may only be effecting his behavior/focus but, this can hinder his ability to learn things up to his potential. I know when I don't feel good I learn less.
As for your broccoli/fish stick question, you could be correct that the fish sticks would be lower in fructose but, the broccoli may have more nutriants that he could use. Your call but, I know Zander eats broccoli 1-2 times per week to get some vit C.
Does Schwan's (home delivery of ice cream and other frozen foods) deliver in your area? They have approved fishsticks. This is your call. I know how improtant fish sticks can be to a 3 year old and veggies are not on the tops of the list for them.
It is all your call but, unless you are seeing no symptoms I would restrict. It will take some time to re-train him but, it will be worth it. At 2 years old Zander we tried a wheat free diet and dairy free diet before we figured out things. It took him 2 years before I could get him back to drinking milk. Before the restriction he drank only milk and loved it. It was very frustrating but, we just stopped focusing on it. We stopped offering it to him. Then one day he decided he wanted to try some. Now he has 2-3 glasses a day.
Good luck!!
