Hello, everybody! As Fred is the older in the board that have HFI, I would like to ask him if when he was diagnosed, he had hepatomegaly and in how many years after been fructose-free diet his hepatomegaly reduces and becomes to the normal size?

I'm sure Fred will answer you, but in the meantime... My daughter had severe hepatomegaly at 7mos of age. That is what first started all the testing. She was diagnosed HFI and started on the diet at 2 1/2 yrs of age. I don't remember just how long they considered her lived enlarged, but I do know by the time she was in school it was back to normal. I think it was just a slow process that they never really commented on since each time it was better. She is 23 now and it has remained normal ever since. All her liver function tests are all normal also.
This probably doesn't help much, other than to let you know there is light at the end of the tunnel. Tammy

Thanks Fred and Tammy! My son started the fructose-free diet 8 months ago. And recently we repeat the abdominal USG, that the liver looks like the same... there is esteatosis( fat in the liver) and it is still larger. I Know that 8 months is a small time, but I will be happy if it show us some progress... At the some time, I think: Well, at least it doesn´t become worst!!!
