Just caught the fifth episode of this show on HBO called "The Veep" about a fictional female U.S. Vice President. A supporting character, Jonah has "fructose intolerance,... it's very rare." The character is not very likable, so let me break the bad news. The portrayal of HFI is this episode is not too accurate, and it is used to setup a few jokes. Not really an awareness raising sort of thing. Does anyone know? Is this the first time that HFI is being portrayed at all in mainstream media? Here's a link to the character

Oh snap! I've been on the lookout for HFI characters on TV (mainly been paying attention to HOUSE MD). I don't have HBO (or any paid-television right now), but I will (hopefully) have it soon(ish). I did some research on the character and haven't found any more information out about him.

I don't have HBO either, but also watch House. If they don't have an HFI case on House tonight (unlikely) then I guess we will never will. Sad Sad day for House fans......

I like House quite a bit as well. It's odd to think after all these seasons that HFI didn't make it into the mix. It's perfect House material.

I had a feeling somewhere it nearly came up on House and somewhere in the cobwebs of my brain it was mentioned and tada
I was watching HOUSE last night. The group came to the conclusion that it was the patient's vegan diet that was causing her illness. Malabsorption came up, then they said "Wibble's Disease" or something that sounded like Wibble's disease. I tried to google that name, but I must have the spelling wrong.
Just thought it was pretty awesome that malabsorption was part of her illness. Of course they didn't go into details about it--which would have made me marginally happier--but I'm content with a vague mention that fruits and vegetables nearly killed this lady.

Not really interested in "highlighting" the condition, since he's referring to it as an allergy .
