Hello, My nine-year-old daughter and I have diagnosed FM (but HFI is suspected, we are going in for genetic testing next.) I also have a six-month-old son whom I'm introducing solids to. He is growing like a weed and is generally a happy baby, but he has a persistent diaper rash which started up when I tried giving him a little butternut squash and flares up with any veggies I give him (I decided to not even try fruit with our family history). I have also given him various meats and fish and his rash does not seem to worsen with those. What are some of the other symptoms I should be looking for in a baby? He doesn't get gas that much either (unlike my daughter, who gets very gassy with any fructose at all.) He is very hungry all the time and wants to nurse a lot at night... could be hypoglycemia? He is in the 90th percentile for height and weight. I would greatly appreciate if you could share your child's/baby experience starting solid foods! Thank you!

Hello My baby was diagnosed at five months with hif, please see my story under " recently diagnose please help" . I am not a doctor and I can' t tell you whether your baby has it or not, but I can say that my baby symptoms were very different. He was very sick after consuming fructose with vomiting, severe lethargy and liver inflammation. I recommend runing some blood test and see an hepatologist, the sooner the diqgnose the better. I hope I was some help to you, good luck with everything.

Megan was the perfect baby until we started introducing solids. to start with she flatly refused anything for first 2 weeks, then started eating a bit of baby rice and liked mashed potato. When eventually she gave in and started eating fruit and vegetables she would projectile vomit+++++ about half way through the meal or about half an hour after.
Her stomach was very distended and this can indicate liver enlargement or very bloated gut, the main thing to look out for is yellowing of the skin or eyes as that indicates liver damage. But don't panic, you are likely to get the sick, possibly foul diarrhea and rash as a result symptoms first.
If you have a family history of fructose problems it may be a good idea to start on the lowest fructose foods anyway for a while, and build up a solid safe basic diet, then try low fructose veggies first, eg spinach.
As for the feeding alot, could be hypoglycemia, or could just be being a boy, all my friends that have had boys have found they do nothing but eat...............
