Hi everyone, After a long wait, we have finally been referred to the head of the metabolic department and have an appointment coming up for our daughter, who is 6. We plan on asking them to repeat the breath test that was done two years ago (which was very positive and they/we presumed was severe FM), but this time we want them to measure the blood and urine. I have searched through the site and gained some great kernels of wisdom, but was wondering if any of you had advice re the following:
As far as I understand it, they will need to test her blood fructose and glucose levels repeatedly, as well as her urine for fructose and uric acid, her phosphate levels, and her liver enzymes. It should presumably be done on an empty stomach. Anything else to test for?
As for amounts, any suggestions? She seems to handle up to 300 mg of fructose if it is ingested along with other food, but beyond that gets abdominal pain, nausea, etc. shortly after eating. We don't want to "overdo" it, but we do want to make this whole horrible exercise worthwhile, so to speak. Since dramatically reducing her fructose intake she has become very sensitive - much more so than ever before, whenever we mess up with the diet. So- any advice as to amount and length of time for the test would be greatly appreciated.
Also, we are going on the assumption that she will have the breath test where you drink the solution, as opposed to having the fructose administered intravenously. She weighs close to 50 lbs. Thanks ;-) Deb

I seem to remember the dosage is around 150mg per kilo body weight but this might be the intravenous.
Anything above maybe 300mg might cause her problems on an empty stomach.
It is important that she has no food for 12 hours before the test, other wise the resulting tests will be masked by the glucose coming off the foods she has more recently eaten.
I hope this helps?
Some time ago I posted a detailed testing procedure and dosage rates which I had looked up.
I cannot remember exactly now out of the top of my head.. ;( maybe having a senior moment, or or low blood sugar which is similar in effect.

Deb just read the link Charlie posted the dosage is between 150mg and 200 mg / kg body weight.
On my "Challenge test" they gave me 1.5g / kilo body weight via IV and very nearly killed me.. it took me over 6 months to start recovering and I am not sure if I have ever fully recovered.
