My mom went to the ER yesterday for kidney stones. They gave her pain killers, but said their urologist wouldn't be able to see her until next Tuesday (which is completely ridiculous, but that's not the point I'm trying to make here). I asked my sister and mom what caused kidney stones and they both said calcium. My sister added "you're screwed." She's so sweet. This seems preposterous to me because HFIers should be completely chock-ful-a kidney stones. Well, I should at least since I eat 3 square meals of dairy a day. I looked up wikipedia ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kidney_stone) and it lists a few other causes (sugar being a huge one). I was wondering if anyone here has had kidney stones?

One of the primary causes of kidney stones is a chronically acid pH. Eatting too many foods and drinking too many beverages that are acid forming is main problem. Sugar is very acid forming, as is coffee. Unfortunately, most alkaline forming foods are high in fructose (green vegetables). Milk may be alkaline forming (not quite sure), but cheese is definitely acid forming. All proteins are acid forming.

If I remember right from my days in chemical labs.. if you drink acid the cure is milk.. so long as the acid is weak.. strong acids.. are a bit more of a problem and I doubt you would have time to drink anything. Why you would drink strong acid is another question all together. So I am sure milk is basically alkali as you drink it what it dose when its coming out of the kidneys.. is anyone's guess
