Does anyone know if cauliflower would be safe?

Here's the data: www.daskochrezept.de/bundeslebensmittelschluessel/naehrwerte/blumenkohl-frisch-gegart_G311121_6.htmlFructose (Fruchtzucker) 636 mg/100g Saccharose (Rübenzucker) 130 mg/100g It seems that all of our tolerances are a little different. But for me, it seems my basic tolerance is under 200mg fructose per day and around 300mg sucrose. (I am not officially diagnosed though!) The figures above are for a 100g serving. For me, this would not be safe except in very, very small amounts (like microscopic).

I would be cautious with cauliflower, it is in the list of higher tolerance vegetables, ie if you can cope with higher levels of fructose. But it is also gas forming so if the tummy is at all reactive then it isn't a good idea for that reason either.

I can only tolerate a tiny amount and then only if boiled and served with a lot of cheese sauce.. not something I would want to eat but can do if it was an emergency.. (ie cooked for me by someone thinking it would be safe for me.. then I would try to eat as much as I could.. but I would not enjoy it) Hope this helps?

Thanks for the info. Seems my daughter probably cannot tolerate it either. She had a bit yesterday and was up all night screaming and ended up vommiting. Looks like no more cauliflower for her . After reading your replies now I see why she had a bad night. Again this board is a lifesaver!

Blimey that sounds like a very strong reaction to me. How old is your daughter? Has she been officially diagnosed yet? also where in the world are you? it helps with advice if we know the country.

Hi Jennifer, as you are in the early stages you are much better to completely eliminate ALL fruit and veg for now and not try any for at least 4 months to really clear out the system. Meg was the envy of her friends during this stage as she didn't have to clear her veg off her plate like they did....... That point worked well for quite a while.... and everyone liked coming here as they didn't have to eat theirs either......

ukbill, no no official diagnosis yet. The doc still wants to rule other things out before she checks further into HFI. Since her liver bloodwork was normal when they checked they think she doesn't have it. We are trying to stay with a strict fructose free diet though because she doesn't seem to tolerate any fructose.
We are in the midwest and at a top medical institution so hopefully they will figure it all out. Our doc said she has only seen a few kids with HFI and she has been in parctice many years.
Charlie, I think I will take your advice and stay clear of any fruit or veggies for a while while we try to clear out her system. She just doesn't seem to do well with too much of any kind of food these days.
