I am wondering if a diet with a fructose load is required prior to testing with small bowel biopsy or liver biopsy for HFI? [For example, in Celiac testing a person must be consuming gluten for quite a few weeks prior to blood enzyme test or small bowel endoscopy with biopsies. I understand the DNA testing for both diseases are not diet dependent, and can be done even if the person has already eliminated the offending substance in their diet.] What are the rules for HFI?

There are no rules that I am aware of, but you could email Dr. Tolan and ask him that question. tolan@bu.edu
I never have understood why the genetic test for celiac would require a person to be eating gluten/gliadin prior to the test. It is genetic and should be present whether a person is eating the trigger food or not. So, I need someone to explain this to me.
However, I can totally understand why it would be necessary for a positive diagnosis through intestinal biopsy. Interestingly, however, I had flattened villi through intestinal biopsy 7 years after discontinuing the ingestion of all gluten/gliadin containing foods.
I am now wondering if the continual ingestion of fructose, by a fructose intolerant person, can also cause flattened villi??? I was still eating fructose when I had my intestinal biopsy.

I have already posted this idea in Danielles thread, I do wonder if tests are more likely to be positive if the body is more reactive to the toxin, therefore requiring to be having fructose in the system for a while before testing, Meg was very reactive the first time they tested her as she was still having all veg, the second time 2 years later she had been off everything as much as was possible and it was borderline, They took this to read she was improving but since adding stuff back in she has got alot worse. As a result I am continuing to give her everything I know is wrong but they say OK so that we get proper positives or negatives.
I suppose most people who are tested for HFI would usually be unaware that is the problem before they get tested so won't have already limited their diet, maybe they are more likely to be positive.
