Has anyone with confirmed HFI tried prickly pear cactus fruit?
CRON-O-Meter says they have 9 gms of sugars, but does not deliniate which kind. They do not taste sweet to me.
The reason I am interested in them is because they are extremely high in magnesium. 1 single cactus fruit provides 85 mg of magnesium.
Magnesium is one of the most difficult minerals to obtain on a fructose-free diet. Dairy provides a ton of calcium but very little magnesium. The ratio in milk is 10 parts Ca to 1 part Mg. Ideally, human should consume a ratio of 2 parts Ca to 1 part Mg. I started experimenting with yogurt again after not eating any dairy for over 5 years, and immediately started getting leg cramps at night. I believe this is because it is creating an imbalance in my Ca:Mg ratio.

Thanks, tikitavi. I could probably handle a small amount. I will try it.
