This unseasonably warm weather the midwest is having has prodding another hare-brained hypothesis into my noggin'.
If the hypothesis that HFI gene originates in/near the Arctic Circle, then perhaps my absolute loathing of summer and warm temperatures in general is not unusual given my ancestry.
People tend to think I'm crazy when I say I hate summer, but really, I do. I hate bugs. I hate poison ivy. I hate sweating. I really don't like the fact that I get heat rash/blisters on my arms & legs. Don't get me wrong, I love spring and autumn the most, but given the choice I'd much rather have warm blankets, coffee, and knitting to bikinis, sunscreen, and sand.
I tend to think some of my preferences might just be personal quirks rather than genetic, but I thought I might ask which you prefer: summer or winter?

I'm with you! I hate heat, sweating, bug bites, poison ivy. I love fall and winter! I especially love "bracing" cold weather of winter, I feel like I am pitting my wits against the cold and it makes me feel more alive!

Brrr, what do you mean warm. Britain is in the grip of the "Beast from the East"!!!! ? Well we do like to dramatise things, apparently we are heading for -6C!!! Apparently it is a cold spell coming from scandinavia, thanks you lot!!! Now Megs is considerably better in the summer, has more energy, sleeps better and gets a stunning tan instantly in hot weather - I am very jealous of her!! I assumed the melatonin she absorbs helps her. But then we are talking about British heat!!! She tends to go into hibernation in the winter especially in long grey spells without sunshine.

So sorry, Charlie. It's about 18-degrees Calcium (64F) where I'm at right now and has been off and on for a few weeks. I'm more used to -20C (-10F) January and February temperatures.
I almost prefer the colder temperatures because I'm worried what summer is going to be like.

I'll take your weather. It's warmer than usual here, too, but still too cold. Regina is definitely a summer person. I have to watch her in the summer that she drinks enough. she would stay in the pool, or in the heat all day long. She will ride in the motorcycle side car, with a helmet on, in the sun, sweating, and not want to get out.
Now in the winter, I'm lucky to get her out the door.
