Yet again Livestrong have got their HFI page wrong!
The first time I saw it it was nearly as bad as the one we got sorted in the last few days.. it was full of dangerous info!
It still is!
they state :-
"Diagnosing fructose involves administering a hydrogen breath test, which can measure for a variety of sugars, including glucose, lactose, fructose and sucrose. The presence of fructose in the breath test can indicate a possible fructose intolerance."
This is not even close to being sensible let alone accurate!
Fructose in the breath! (its called the hydrogen breath test for a reason!)
Using this test will not diagnose HFI (which is what the article is about) but could potentially kill a person with HFI!
Good one Livestrong!
I have contacted them to point out the error!

They got this part right however! "Aversion to Sweets If you have HFI, you almost certainly do not like the taste of sweets. This aversion to sweet-tasting foods occurs in virtually all patients with HFI, according to the Johns Hopkins University genetics database, which is called Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man. An aversion to sweets can make it easier to adhere to the strict avoidance of fructose necessary if you are living with HFI."
