Hi Everyone,
I was just wondering if any HFI-ers on this forum have family members with diabetes (especially Type II), or the other Syndrome X illensses (high blood pressure, high LDL cholesterol, low HDL cholesterol, high triglycerides, insulin resistance, obesity, gout--all of which are directly conected to having high uric acid levels in the body)?
My grandfather was borderline Type II diabetic as is my mother, my uncle (mother's brother) is a Type II diabetic, my cousin (uncle's son) has a daughter who was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at age 2. My mother and cousin have both been overweight their whole lives. My mother is hungry basically all the time.
I am wondering if carriers (with one gene) may also have compromised fructose metabolism, but just not as bad as HFI-ers (with two genes).
In another thread, colormist mentioned that her geneticist said that carriers have a higher incidence of hypoglycemia. My mother has been hypoglycemic her whole life like me, but has never been anywhere near as sick as me from food.

My dad (late 50s) has high blood pressure right now. There are no other conditions that I know of in my family. Well, my grandfather had a triple by-pass about 20 years ago, but I'm not sure what medical cause was. I know he can't have salt and takes a lot of medication.
I wouldn't be surprised if obesity ran in my family. My sister is very much so overweight, my mom is always battling with her weight--I think she hasn't been within a healthy weight range since she had her first kid.
Other than that, everyone in my family has died of cancer. I have to admit that I'm more concerned about dying of cancer than I am of liver or kidney disease. I'm not too concerned with diabetes, cholesterol, blood pressure (except when it gets really low), or obesity. My diet tends to keep the weight off naturally.

My mother, therefore Megan's grandmother has type 2 diabetes but more through bad diet management I think.
