This is actually an issue I'll be discussing with my doctor, but there are a lot of factors to consider so I'm trying to do preliminary research on my own.
I have a partially ruptured achilles tendon. There is a chance it could heal on its own, but it would be a very long process; it's been hurting for months and has not yet responded to treatment. The only thing that really controls the pain is 1200 to 1600 mg of ibuprofen a day, but friends have warned me that it could damage my liver if taken long-term. I see this as a potential problem because I am already concerned about my liver due to HFI.
A possible solution is surgery. My doctor has suggested it but he wasn't really happy with the idea. I would be unable to put any weight on my foot for 6 weeks and I'd have to be on blood thinner medication due to the danger of clots. I am also concerned because I seem to be more prone to inflammation and swelling than other people, and the last time I had surgery that caused some problems. I don't know if that had anything to do with HFI.
There are some other considerations (like my job) that I have to factor in to make a decision but those are outside this discussion. Since HFI does not fall within my doctor's specialty, I am asking those of you familiar with HFI if you know whether HFI might cause additional complications in either situation: long-term ibuprofen or surgery. If you can give me any sources of information, I will discuss them with my doctor. Thanks in advance for any information you can give me.
