The 5 top things that have transformed my HFI life are.. 1/. Finding this site and chatting to Fred, the first HFI person I had ever contacted! I was not alone! Thanks Fred ;D 2/. Psyllium Husk none digestible fibre HFI safe! good stuff! 3/. Colofac to stop the stomach cramps. 4/. Peppermint tea for the same reason and because its a really nice refreshing drink. 5/. Discovering that eating small amounts of Fructose even if I did not get a reaction, because I was masking the Fructose with carbs, was still damaging me. What are yours?

The two things that transformed my HFI life were: 1. Having a glucose tolerance test when I was pregnant with my daughter. I knew that "sugar"--table sugar, i.e., sucrose-- made me incredibly sick, and I was absolutely terrified of the huge cup of glucose they wanted me to drink. Then I had NO reaction to the glucose at all. So I knew it wasn't glucose that was the problem, it was something else in the sugar--fructose. 2. Picking up a bottle of anti-nausea medicine in the drugstore and seeing the phrase "Not for use by individuals with Hereditary Fructose Intolerance." I had never heard the phrase before, but suddenly the clouds opened, the sun shone, and my mind went "Eureka!" I went home and looked it up on the internet, and that was me they were describing--I even had the cavity-free teeth! 3. I can't say that this site has "tranformed" my life, but it's great to have someone else who understands this condition! My husband is very patient, but even he gets it wrong sometimes.

1. Reading about pixy stix on Dr. Tolan's forum. My jaw hit the floor and I think tears made an appearance. It explained everything with just that one post. 2. Metromint Chocolate Mint water. It's one of my few non-sweet treats. 3. Figuring out how to eat properly to maintain a steady weight & exercise routine. I still eat all those delicious fatty foods (cheese) and carbs (pasta) and I probably still eat them in the same amounts, I just eat them at a different pace. It has made all the difference. 4. Of course finding an active board that I'm allowed to participate in has changed everything. It's nice to have a place to bounce ideas off everyone and argue about our fructose theories.

As an HFI mum it has to be the realisation of just how much crap is in our diets these days. I have always eaten healthily but when you start reading labels and start noticing just how much sugar, dextrose, glucose syrup and inverts are added to what should be a savoury food!!! No wonder diabetes is so rife, and heart disease.

Figuring out the source of my food "issues" truly transformed my life. Reading about the person on Dr. Tolan's site who could eat Pixy Stix was THE transforming moment. And of course, finding all of you who could relate and had such similar experiences...especially you, Laura.
