My son's day care provider is planning on having a little Holloween party and wanted to have some special treats but was concerned about finding something suitable for J.J. I thought that if I can find something suitable for J.J., I can make the other kids a regular version and J.J. his special version. Do you have any ideas/recipes? Do you know of a suitable recipe for:
Cupcakes or cake Frosting Rice Crispy Treats
pretty much anything sweet would work

There are 8 pages of recipes here, including ideas for cupcakes and frostings. Sorry, can't help you out about Rice crispies, but there is a recipe to make your own marshmellows, which you could probably put another kind of cereal into.
Just look through the pages......

Does it have to be sweet, maybe you could do savoury, Megs always had savoury treats and didn't bat an eyelid as long as she had something, to be honest the earlier your son can get used to that idea the better, there are lots of sweet ideas but they don't suit all of them, if you can steer him away from sweet tastes life will probably be alot easier. If he has HFI you may find he naturally prefers savoury anyway.
Megs really likes pancakes, maybe you could do some pancake rolls with a savoury filling. I know you are really limited due to the dairy issue too but there must be something you can make halloweeny so he feels special. The other kids can always eat savoury too. If the nursery doesn't help with the savoury idea it is worth stressing the health factor to them.
I'll put my thinking cap on for some special halloween treats, as I'm sure Megs will want to do something this year.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what savory means. What kind of filling would go in a pancake? Sounds like a neat idea, but I'm not sure I know what you mean.

Savoury is just not a sweet/ pudding course. If the hummous works then you could use that, Meg has grated cheese in hers, beef or lamb mince fried and put in, chicken bits. Or, have you tried glucose/dextrose yet as I just sprinkle that on for a pudding and roll it up into a finger shape. You can't do cream but whipped cream is another sweet option. Megs has very strange tastes and spreads Marmite/vegemite on hers!!!!!!
Homemade chicken goujons are good. Get some chicken fillets from your butcher (watch cheap brands as here they inject them with sugared water to plump them up), cut them into thin strips. Get 3 bowls, one has plain flour, one a beaten egg and one breadcrumbs. Roll the strips in the flour, then egg then breadcrumbs and either deep fry for about 4 minutes, until golden brown and bobbing around on shallow fry them for 10 - 15mins., turning at least once. I find deep frying is better as they go a bit dry shallow fried, these are great cold as nibbles.

We make rice rolls with rice paper and rice noodles and a little chicken. Great for everyone and you don't have to make a special one for JJ.
For halloween we sometimes put in green food coloring in water and make colored icepoles and cubes. Red ones look great to. We also make blood eggs with hard boiled egg whites soaked in food colouring. Not great for an everyday food, but a once in a while, it might be OK. I always use food coloring which is artificial.
Frozen water in a glove works well as well if it is colored.
Good Luck. Let us know how it goes.

How about the old tried-and-true Pixie Stix??? I give them out now at Halloween and all kids seem to love them. Fun Dip is also a good one since it has an edible stick the kids can dip in the candy. All dextrose and safe for HFI'ers. It's a lot easier to "make", too, lol.
